α1-Microglobulin is a low molecular weight glycoprotein and is synthesised by the hepatocytes and lymphocytes. Increased excretion of the α1-Microglobulin is indicative of reduced tubular re-absorption. The conditions associated with the reduced re-absorption are chronic interstitial nephropathy and acute or chronic tubular damage.
