Acid Phosphatase determination is widely used particularly for the prostatic enzyme where elevated levels can be used as an indication of prostate carcinoma status. Elevated levels of total acid phosphate where prostate pathology is not a contributing factor can be due to liver disease and disintegrating blood platelets or erythrocytes.
