The Biorex Diagnostics Total Lipid test is intended for the quantitative determination of the total lipid index in serum using the sulfo-phospho-vanilline colorimetric method.

Lipids are organic compounds in blood. At least 95% of the lipids exist as lipoproteins which can be quantitated.  This test is used as a screening method for hyperlipidaemia. The sulfo-phospho-vanilline method for the colorimetric determination of the serum total lipids was originally described by Charbrol et al.
